Cultural Diversity (ED 589):

Designed for all teachers and administrators, K-12, who desire unique cultural expeditions, rare vacations, and educational travel. The intent of the course is to celebrate cultural diversity and address the extreme importance to preserve cultural traditions and legacies. Emphasis during the week is given to Native American, Spanish, Mexican contributions to history, literature, visual/performing arts, and material culture. Your “classrooms” are Indian Pueblos, Spanish plazas/haciendas, museums, significant historic/anthropological sites, select galleries/artist studios, private homes, and the Greater World Community! You will meet “living treasures” who are always willing to share their personal histories, world views, creative endeavors, cultural traditions, and invaluable insights. Collectively, their messages are extremely relevant to our personal enrichment and professional growth. Classroom application is unlimited. This course is casual, fun, and highly informative. You shall have time to pursue self-guided activities amid the Taos and Santa Fe surrounds.

Two semester credits Adams State College: $90
Instructor Fee: $160

Cultural Mapping and Diversity (ED) 589:

Primarily a guided independent study course while in New Mexico for those who desire a pleasing combination of educational travel, personal time to work on creative endeavors, and gathering materials/content ideas for classroom use and staff development. It is necessary that you have a working knowledge of North Central New Mexico and have the ability to identify a specific area of interest or creative project. You shall be given a high level of assistance to find relevant human and material resources. Each morning, you may have an “opening session” of two hours with the instructor for information sharing/guidance in a library, museum, gallery, bookstore, artist studio, historic site, or private home. You then spend the remainder of each day to pursue your creative endeavors, information gathering, places and persons of interest. This course is wonderful for all teachers and administrators who wish to advance the preservation of cultural legacies in our personal lives and in our schools. Cultural Diversity is not a pre-requisite.

The design of each course is co-creative in nature. The itinerary allows for individual exploration, off the beaten path travel opportunities, and far from the typical “tour group” experience. I have artistically fashioned these courses for educators who value educational travel, history, literature, the arts, and divergent multicultural experiential studies. In that the content of my classes are multidisciplinary, there is relevance for all K-12 teachers and administrators. You shall enjoy a course itinerary and tempo that is refreshing, reflective, relaxed, rejuvenating! You shall experience uncommon personal and professional enrichment in a shared mission to celebrate and preserve cultural legacies!
