F o r m a t
The format of each course is based upon the principle of co-creative interaction and makes the assumption we all have skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm to share as active participants during experiential learning expeditions. I encourage each participant to influence the content and outcome of your course. A pleasing balance exists between the need for structure; the need for personal pursuits and expression of individual creativity. Activities range from short lectures, on-site readings, group discussions, individual exploration, and sessions with New Mexico residents who are drawn from a pool of: Painters; Writers; Potters; Carvers; Weavers; Photographers; Historians; Educators; “Living Treasures”; and descendants of historically significant families. All activities are relevant to the importance and preservation of cultural legacies. A further assumption is made in that I believe we learn best from other cultures by placing ourselves in direct contact with these cultures to view and experience, first-hand, their cultural manifestations that express differing world-views, creative ideas, and historical footprints.
Logistics:
After you make your way to Taos , car-pooling from site to site is the norm. Please contact me for ways to get here that will save you time and money, whether you are driving into Taos or flying into Albuquerque . Historically, it has never been easy for wayfarers to arrive in Taos . Its isolation, however, is a large part of the attraction and many do not wish to leave!
Payment of Fees:
Museum entry fees (group rates) for the week will total about $20.00 per person for Cultural Diversity students. This is collected (cash) on registration day so I can procure a pass for group rates to all the museums
Tuition fee ($90.00) is paid on day one during the registration/orientation session. Credit card or personal checks will be payable to Adams State College.
Instructor Fee ($160.00) is only payable by personal check or cash. All fees will garnish a receipt in order for you to possibly deduct this professional growth and development course on your individual tax returns, if you itemize. If your district pays for all, or part of your fees, be advised that I, or Adams State College, do not handle district invoices. It must be done by your school district on a reimbursement basis (typically) after you present receipts and proof of completion: An official transcript or letter of completion from the instructor. Rush transcripts are provided by Adams State College.
Enrollment Confirmation:
You are confirmed (space reserved) for the class and week of your choice and officially placed on my class roster after you submit a pre-registration deposit of $50.00 toward the Instructor Fee . You must cancel your enrollment three weeks prior to the first day of the course to receive a refund; minus a $10.00 handling charge. It is also possible for you to apply your deposit toward another session, starting later.
